Cotswold Way Walking Holidays

Cotswold Way Walking Holidays

A walking holiday along the Cotswold Way conjures up a vision of honey coloured stone, unspoilt pretty villages, rolling green hills and cultivated upland landscape of the “wolds” the old English word for rolling hills

The Cotswold Way is often called the model for a long distance walking holiday ; enjoyed best as moderate stroll rather than head down yomp, through the often stunningly attractive countryside and  sense medieval England which is very appealing

Beginning in Chipping Camden the 100 mile (161km) Cotswold Way threads its way along the distinctive escarpment of the beautiful Cotswold Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

You walk through ancient oak and beech woodlands and deep tree lined valleys, through pastoral sheep country  , and across rolling barley fields where views sweep out over multi coloured patchwork of rich farmland, castles and country manors, and of course the famous medieval wool villages with their disitinctive  golden church spires glistening in the sun.

Although rarely rising above 300 metres (900ft) the Cotswolds Way Cotswold Way Walking Holidays Cotswold Edgemeanders over many of  the Cotswolds best viewpoints.  The highest point Cleeve Hill stands at 1086ft above sea level and the Cotswolds  prominent western edge gives panoramic views over the Severn Vale, Bristol Channel and beyond to the hills of Wales

Highlights of the Cotswold Way are numerous ;picturesque old Cotswolds towns and villages as Chipping Camden, Stanton, Painswick, the magnificent setting and grounds of Sudeley Castle home of Henry VIII's Queen, Catherine Parr who lies in the castle's chapel, the many old ancient Celtic and earlier hill forts, ensures each day is interest filled.
