'Lady
of the lake'
“ I
just never wanted to leave here”
Kathy Morgan….Clarksburgh WV
Our many walking holiday guests have often been astonished by how beautiful Wales is….
…and taken aback by how little is known abroad about this ancient country of so many contrasts that constantly surprise and delight you.
Wales is part of the United Kingdom but separate from England. It is an ancient Celtic country, a people, a culture, a language, a little known part of a Britain that has remained different and unspoilt.
Known in its own language as Cymru, ‘the Land of Comrades’, towards a million of its people speak Cymraeg, Welsh, the language of the Celts and one of the world’s oldest living languages.
Wales’s ancient landscape hides a network of secluded trails once traversed by ancient Celts and earlier occupiers, threading their way amongst some of the oldest, most beautiful, yet least known and unspoilt areas in Britain.
This
is a superb walking country. Within its small expanse
lies a land of spectacular contrasts and scenery that
constantly changes and surprises. Deep green pastoral
valleys; isolated 15C stone hillfarms; high dry-stone
walls defining centuries old boundaries; soaring green
hills; purple mountains encircling deep cwms with legends
of dragons ; secluded sparkling glacial lakes where princesses
lived. Breathtaking coastal scenery crops up unexpectedly
around turns, as mountains rush down to ruggedly beautiful
long unspoilt beaches of Cardigan Bay.
You will roam into little changed countryside with memories of ancient kingdoms, climb to hill-forts of warrior princes and discover the time and places of the 6C Celtic King Arthur . Did he exist? Who was he? What of Merlin the mysterious figure of Welsh legend ? Discover the real truth of these enduring legendary figures walking in Wales.
You puzzle at solitary ‘maen hirs’, standing stones pointing to heavenly objects, visit the sanctuaries of Druids and learn of their power, discover hermit churches of the Golden Age of the Celtic saints who spread Christianity and learning across Wales and Ireland.
Each
day is different as we guide you through hillsides and down the valleys,
delving into the hidden corners of this enchanted land.
“We have travelled much of the world, but we had no idea Wales was so beautiful, so unspoilt, so different.
Why haven’t we heard more about Wales?”
