Walking holidays on the Dylan Thomas Trail

For many, Dylan Marlais Thomas was the epitome of the wild Welshman. That man amongst men fought with words to express his deepest feelings for the earth and people that were his Wales. Dylan was born in Wales in 1914. Fascinated by language, he excelled in English and reading, but neglected other subjects and dropped out of school at sixteen. His first book, Eighteen Poems, was published to great acclaim when he was twenty. Tragically, he died from alcoholism at the age of 39 after a particularly long drinking bout in New York City in 1953.

Journey with us to experience Wales as it is, quiet walks in the wild countryside of Ceredigion – Cardigan Bay in West Wales.

Passing through Red Kite country.

Visit locations still rich in the lore of Dylan, from Llannon to New Quay.

Dylan Thomas Trail

First, we journey by the sea, for Dylan means “sea”, the Dylan Thomas Trail starts in the small seaside town of Llanon nr Aberystwyth, proceeding inland to Talsarn and then following the valley of the river Aeron to Aberaeron. From Aberaeron we make our way along the coast to New Quay, identified as Dylan’s fictional Llareggub, at a comfortable gait, savouring the beautiful Welsh countryside, with its scenes of wild seas and sweeping views. Aberaeron
Newquay In New Quay there are many allusions to Dylan’s texts and literary identities.
