Walking the Anglesey Coastal Path

Part of the Wales Coast Path

A walking holiday on the Anglesey Coastal path completes a unique 125-mile circuit of Anglesey,  set against the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia mountain range.

The Anglesey Coastal Path offers a superb walk around the fabled Isle of Anglesey, which lies in the Irish Sea, off Wales’s northern coast.

Favoured by a sheltered location and mild climate, Anglesey is predominantly Welsh-speaking.  It was the spiritual homeland of the Celtic Druids and the throne of native Welsh Kings. Later on it became capital of Wales and the seat of the 118-year Tudor (from Tewdwr) dynasty, ending with Henry VIII.

Today it is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In spring and early summer, the pinks, lavender and blues of coastal flowers and the bright yellow of gorse contrast beautifully with the deep blue green backdrop of the countryside. Below you, porpoises and seals pop out of the water unexpectedly, while gannets plunge into the waves as if to entertain you along your walk.

The southern coast has limestone escarpments, rolling woodlands, sand dunes, wide beaches, little coves and the mysterious lovers’ island – Llanddwyn. From the island’s many traeths (beaches) you have stunning views over to Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula.

Along the northern coast is a more solitary area, with remote landscapes, and the dramatic sea cliffs of North and South Stack, the spectacular location of its famous lighthouse. In clear conditions you can see the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, to the West.

And along the way don’t forget to practice pronouncing the name of the famous village….
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

…everyone will be impressed by your linguistic skill.
